What you will see, explore, touch, and taste: vineyards of the Palava region (UNESCO Biosphere Reserve) with its best wines the Dyje National park, the fence of the "Iron Curtain", UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Lednice/Valtice, Telc, Cesky Krumlov and Holasovice, the unique fish ponds of the Trebon region in Southern Bohemia (UNESCO Biosphere Reserve) and typical local fish cuisine. WHEN TO GO? Any time between May and October. Just tell us. Daily distance is 35 - 60 km (= 22 - 38 miles) at an easy to medium difficulty level.
Day 1 -Transfer to the starting point and see the expansive chateau grounds and parklands of Valtice and Lednice (UNESCO World Heritage Sites). Then cycling to Mikulov, a renaissance town famous also for its Jewish history in the heart of wine country at the foot of the Palava Hills (UNESCO Biosphere Reserve). Overnight here. Day 2- Continuation to Znojmo through the undulating vineyards..... A short tour around the mediaeval town centre with its wine shops, churches, Romanesque rotunda,decorated with unique frescos inside, reminiscent of the early Slavs and overnight here. Day 3 - Cycling along the Dyje (Thaya) river valley and around the ancient Sobes vineyard and through the Podyji National Park, touching remains of the "Iron Curtain" to Vranov, a little town renowned for its charming chateau. Overnight here. Day 4 - Cycle through gentle picturesque waving countryside of hills and forests towards Jaromerice and visit the park and baroque chateau of Jaromerice. Overnight here in one of the last examples of the "socialistic" style hotel. Day 5 - Today a trip among meadows and pastures of Highlands from Jaromerice to Telc, UNESCO Heritage Site. Many restaurants in the wonderful historic core await you here! Overnight here. Day 6 - Gentle cycling through the scenic path to Slavonice and a short look to its fantastic square, another renaissance gem. Slavonice is becoming increasingly famous for its new tradition of pottery - you can decorate your own cup here and they will send it to you after it has been fired in the kiln. Continuation to Jindrichuv Hradec, over 700 years old town using the narrow gauge train for the last part. Overnight here. Day 7 - Downwards among hundreds of fishponds to the Renaissance Trebon (UNESCO Biosphere Reserve). Fish restaurants in Trebon and the local Regent beer are a must! Overnight here. Day 8 - Today through meadows and forests of the Trebon Pan to the world renowned mediaeval town of Cesky Krumlov (UNESCO Heritage Site), situated along the Vltava (Moldau) River. Don t forget to try the local Eggenberg beer in one of the great pubs! Overnight here. Day 9 - Experience the unforgettable atmosphere of Cesky Krumlov again - see its beautiful romantic chateau and/or the Egon Schiele Gallery. Have a cup of coffee in one of the many charming restaurants and then set out for a trip through the picturesque rolling countryside to Holasovice, a unique village built in baroque folk style (UNESCO World Heritage Site). The trip ends in Ceske Budejovice (Budweis) , the "capital of South Bohemia", where you must taste the only true original Budweiser beer! Overnight here. Day 10 - By train from Ceske Budejovice to Prague, a unique treasure of architectural styles and fine arts. You can leave your bicycles in Ceske Budejovice or to take them with you to Prague.
