Day 1 - Morning transfer from Vienna to the starting point - Lednice, Czech Republic. A visit to the expansive chateau grounds and parklands in Lednice. Then towards the Palava Mts. and climb up the limestone hills, where there are ruins of several castles with names like Divci hrad (Girls Castle), Novy hrad (New Castle), and Sirotci hrad (Orphans Castle). Then light tour along the ridge and through the vineyards with their beautiful panoramic views (total of about 10 km) to Mikulov, a small renaissance town. Overnight here or in Znojmo. Day 2 - Morning exploration of the town of Znojmo with its mediaeval town centre, wine cellars and wine shops, and the Romanesque rotunda with its unique frescos, reminiscent of the early Slavs. Round hiking trip via the Podyji National Park with a stop in the Sobes vineyard, established in ancient times. Total length of about 14 km. Overnight in Znojmo. Day 3 - Morning transfer towards the Highlands with a stop in Cízov (in the Podyji National Park) to touch the remains of the Iron Curtain. Afterwards there is an 8 or 14 km long trip to a Hardegg viewpoint. Overnight in Vranov or a late afternoon transfer to the Highlands with an overnight in Telč. Day 4 - Telc sightseeing - a storybook-like town (UNESCO World Heritage Site), the renaissance town centre, chateau, and the Jan Zrzavy Gallery. Afternoon hiking trip from Lhotka back to Telč through the gentle countryside of the highlands with their beautiful views. Overnight ditto. Day 5 - Stop in Slavonice, another renaissance gem. Than take a ride in a narrow-gauge train and enjoy the peaceful countryside of an area called "Czech Canada". Downwards fishpond country and hike along the ancient banks of the ponds with their avenues of centuries-old oak trees to the centre of the renaissance town of Trebon. Overnight here. Day 6 - Scenic hiking of about 6 or 14 km up towards the Sumava mountains (national park and the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve) with their beautiful panoramic views of the main massif. The day ends in the world renowned Cesky Krumlov (UNESCO World Heritage Site), a fantastic mediaeval town on the Vltava River. Overnight here. Day 7 - A trip towards the Zlata Koruna monastery (Golden Crown, national monument) and hiking along the gorge-filled Vltava River valley. You can also rent a canoe and paddle down the river towards Zlata Koruna or have a lazy day in Ceský Krumlov, exploring its wonders - the chateau, galleries, shops and cafés. Overnight ditto. Day 8 - Morning trip to the charming town of Holasovice, a unique village built in "baroque folk" style (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and then via Kutna Hora (UNESCO Heritage Site) towards Prague, a unique treasure of architectural styles and fine arts.
