VIENNA - PRAGUE, ABOUT THE REGION

Do you know where all the impressive sites and amazing opportunities are? They are just a stone´s throw away from Prague or Vienna. Explore the best between Vienna and Prague.

Vienna, without any doubt, is one of the musts, the historical and glamorous capital of middle Europe, an ideal starting point for your unusual holidays. Many airlines connects Vienna with the rest of the world. And only one and a half hours from Vienna is a fascinating land of wonderful wines, lively folklore, and medieval towns. Peace, tranquility, spectacular sights, and warm hospitality await you in Czechia.

Znojmo, a Romanesque and Medieval settlement officially known as "Royal Town" (named in 1266), is a must see of any visit. The town is renowned as a centre of excellent wines, its vineyards date back to Roman times. Enjoy the annual September wine celebrations that symbolise the confirmation of ancient rights.

Telc, a UNESCO Heritage Site, is a town of contrasts. Enjoy the historical, unspoilt town centre with its unmistakable Renaissance influence. Notice the integrity of the fresco and sgraffiti decorated buildings. There is much to marvel at in this enchanting town including a Renaissance wooden weapons exhibition and the Jan Zrzavy Gallery of paintings by the internationally renouwned 20th century artist.

Slavonice is another jewel in the crown of the Czech Republic. There is an abundance of late Gothic and Renaissance architecture decorating the town square. It was in 1277 that King Otakar II first drew the people´s attention to this delightful town. The fronts of the houses are attractively decorated with sgraffitos, and in many houses there are distinctive vault passages to be discovered.

The Trebon basin, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, is an immense area containing hundreds of ponds, canals, rivers, meadows and forests. It is really a spectacular landscape. There are many protected species of flora and fauna, enough to satiate the appetites of any nature enthusiast. Many years ago this was a swampland, but during the Renaissance period a unique system of ponds and canals has been constructed. Today this is the home of the popular Czech fresh-water fish, the Trebon carp. The town of Trebon is a well preserved example of Mediaeval urbanism, built by the mighty Rosenberg family from 1366. In about 1700 the Renaissance Rosenberg arsenal was converted into a brewery which today continues to brew the renowned Regent beer.

Cesky Krumlov , a UNESCO Heritage Site, is a picturesque town situated on the banks of the meandering upper course of the Vltava River in South Bohemia. It particularly flourished under the Lords of Rosenberg (1302-1602) who made Cesky Krumlov the centre of their large estate. The more than three hundred historical buildings which are testimony to the eventful past of Cesky Krumlov, combine with many other charming features to make up an impressive whole. The list of cultural events includes activities organised at the chateau, the museum, the Egon Schiele Centre and the many private art galleries.

Missing more nature? Then add the Sumava national Park, which is distant only a few kilometres from here.

And what about a typical Baroque villague? Holasovice, a UNESCO Heritage Site, awaits you.

Finish your tour in one of the world´s great heritage sites, Prague. This is renowned for both its spectacular and delightfully eclectic styles of architecture and its fascinating history and culture. Prague features a glorious cornucopia of architecture, including Romanesque, Gothic, baroque, Renaissance, classical, Art Nouveau, functionalist and Czech Cubist styles. Inevitably, such a treasure chest of architectural styles is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, reflecting its world-wide importance.
