BLUEBERRY FIELDS, PRADED´S (FOREFATHER´S) LAND - ABOUT THE REGION

This is a land of dreams protected by the blessings of Praded (Forefather), who takes care of all good beings. It is not unusual to spend a day exploring and appreciating the beauty of this fantastic landscape without meeting a soul. Kilometres of marked hiking trails run along the mountain ridges, offering spectacular vistas, before making their way down into picturesque valleys, through endless fields of blueberries, impressive mountain forests, and alongside cascading waterfalls. Praděd Mountain (1492 m), the second highest mountain in the country, is located in the Jeseniky Mountains.

This land of dreams is the native country of world-famous composer Leos Janacek, who was born and composed music in Hukvaldy. It was this landscape of cascading waters and fresh mountain air that inspired Vincenc Priessnitz in the 19th century to establish the world2s first hydrotherapeutic spa in Jesenik. There are fantastic sights to be seen - cold, pristine waters plunge down the canyons to the valleys below. There are hundreds of hectares of wetforest below, around the Morava river, covered in spring by a luxurious carpet of delicate purple and white flowers.

Enthusiasts of technical heritage will appreciate the original manually operated paper mill, the only one in Europe that produces paper in a traditional way true to 16th century technology. There is also the Tatra Vintage Vehicle Museum.

Enjoy the beauty of historical cities like Olomouc, mentioned as far back as 1055 in the Kosmas Chronicle. The well-maintained structure of the old mediaeval city, its magnificent merchant houses, ornate baroque palaces, cathedrals and distinctive baroque fountains of European significance all comprise to create a UNESCO Heritage Site.

The richness of the folk architecture is evident in many mountain villages, especially Mala Moravka. Stramberk is the site of Gothic castle ruins with mighty tower, as well as a town with numerous timber houses picturesquely dispersed over the rugged terrain beneath the castle hill. Most surprisingly, this is also a world-famous place due to the discovery of the remains of Neanderthal man, unearthed in the Sipka (Arrow) Cavejust outside of town.

Something to eat? Fantastic local beers like "Holba" go wonderfully with the local speciality "tvaruzky" - a renowned, particularly pungent and distinctive cheese.

Come and enjoy the Blueberry Fields! Come to Praded´s land!
