UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITES AND NATIONAL PARKS OF CENTRAL EUROPE

Many of the world's greatest heritage attractions are distant, hard to get to, inaccessible and off the beaten track. Heritage sites in Central Europe are easy to reach, thanks to cultural density and the connectivity provided by the excellent network of paths for cyclists and uniquely marked trails for hikers.

In addition to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the traveller can find many beautiful mediaeval castles and chateaux, towns with Renaissance and Baroque palaces, remote picturesque villages, undulating vineyards and beautiful mountains.
Below you can find some of them.

The Třeboň region is one of the few protected landscape areas that has a flat landscape cultivated by man for centuries. Despite this, exceptionally valuable natural elements have been preserved here. The Třeboň region is situated in the southeastern Bohemia, close to the Austrian border, not far from Jindřichův Hradec. The Třeboň region has also been declared one of the six UNESCO biosphere reservations (since 1977) in terms of the Man and Biosphere program (MAB). Man has participated in the formation of the landscape in the Třeboň region since the 12th century, especially with modification of the water ratios of the originally boggy landscape, the result of which is a sophisticated network of artificial canals (for example, Zlatá stoka and Nová řeka) and many fishponds, which make the Třeboň region the center of Czech fishpond management (with a total 460 fishponds). The extensive fishpond systems with secondarily created littoral associations have become an important European nesting place and migration point for water fowl. The area excels in its wealth of wetland and water vegetation. One of the most valuable biotopes in the Třeboň region is the extensive transitional marshland with preserved plant associations (bog pine) and the invertebrate fauna bound to them. The originally winding course of the rivers (Lužnice) has also been preserved to a great extent with regularly covered floodplains and the remnants of floodplain forests, as well as extremely dry drift sand locations. Two wetlands of international importance have been declared here by the Ramsar Convention (the Třeboň Fishponds and the Třeboň Marshland).
