Kroměříž - a town of historical monuments, art and culture Kroměříž is one of the finest towns in the Czech Republic and is sometimes called the ‘Athens of the Haná Region2. The history of this town in central Moravia in the foothills of the Chřiby Hills, has for centuries been associated with the bishops and archbishops of Olomouc who chose Kroměříž as their summer residence. The Archbishop2s Palace and the Podzámecká and Květná Gardens were added to UNESCO2s list of world heritage sites in 1998. This trio shows the interconnection of an early Baroque palace with its surrounding landscaped gardens. The Palace and gardens are regarded as an exceptionally beautiful and well-preserved example of Baroque design. The dominant feature of the palace is the 84m-high tower. The Podzámecká Garden was established in the 16th century and later underwent Renaissance and Baroque makeovers. The Květná Garden measures 16 hectares, is lined with paths, has a 244m long gallery of statues depicting Greek and Roman gods and mythical and historical figures and a central rotunda.
