The ancient Czech Ronovec family, later called z Dubé and z Lipé, owned extensive domains in north Bohemia. Adam Berka z Dubé, originally inherited the old family home, Berkenštejn Castle (now Starý Berštejn) which by then was already dilapidated and had been ransacked by the Hussites.Some time between 1558 and 1567 he decided to leave the Gothic castle and build a new home, Nový Berštejn Chateau. After the defeat of the Czech estates (1620) he fled the country and his confiscated properties were taken over by the Valdštejn family. Baroque outdoor swimming pool came down to this days. The Renaissance building had one storey (today's middle wing) which was made of wood. From 1810 the chateau again belonged to the Valdštejn family who renovated it in a pseudo style and gave it its present appearance. During the war the chateau was owned by the German baron, Rudolf von Wedel-Parlow. The hotel has 5 suites ( Wedding suite and President suite ) and 6 romantic rooms. Capacity of hotel is 66 beds.

Nový Berštejn Chateau is situated on the edge of the protected Kokořínsko region, also known as Dubské Švýcarsko. While staying at the chateau you can also go for a walk along the beach of Machovo Lake, the Holany ponds or Nedamov forest swimming pool.
